The Question’s Project

A Collaboration by students from Ursuline College Chatham and Patrick Mahon

January 8 - January 30, 2021
PUBLIC Window Gallery at ARTspace

The Questions Project was produced during the Spring of 2020 with a group of art students from Ursuline College Chatham, in cooperation with Mahon and their teacher, Ms. Nicole McEachran. Much of this work was completed during the COVID19-related school closures. The students developed works that speak their questions – including those that arose amidst the early days of the pandemic, and as various social situations unfolded, including the Black Lives Matter protests. In pondering how we build community, now and in the future – whether amidst normal conditions or otherwise.

This is a satellite installation of The Questions Project, the full exhibition was on display at the Thames Art Gallery in the Mezzanine from September - December 2020.

Celebrating Black Live: Community Quilt Project

February 5 - February 26, 2021
PUBLIC Window Gallery at ARTspace

The Thames Art Gallery and ARTspace are pleased to announce their plans to observe Black History Month this February by inviting the CK community to contribute to a participatory artwork.

For centuries, people of African descent confronted, and continue to confront prejudice and inequity. Systemic barriers still prevent full and equal participation in society. Almost nine months after George Floyd’s death, the rise of Black Lives Matter, and CK’s own peaceful march down King Street, we want to keep carrying it forward. Art can help us create the world we want to live in and what better way to focus our energies than to join together as a community and participate in a positive vision for 2021?

Both artists collaborate with the land through natural objects:  Peet uses branches to frame his drawings, and Joyce mixes lake water into her paints. Scattered amidst the installation are stones and tiny trees, with each element bringing its own story about an encounter the artists have had with the land.
